CLARION'S
END
With this album Coptic Rain shows they're here to stay. At first the album seems to lack the intensity and threatening qualities of the predecessors, but once you let your guard down it grips you and doesn't let go.
One of the reasons the album doesn't kick ass right from the beginning is the Devil in Disguise cover song. Apparently the band likes Elvis, but Elvis and industrial don't really mix. The song is too slow and too different from the rest of the album. Why the band put this on the album I'll never understand. The rest however is fantastic with And All I Loved as an exhilarating high.
The album was released in 1996 and proves Coptic Rain to be a productive act. This third album has a more open, less distorted sound compared to it's predecessors. A development that started on the second album and is apparently still ongoing. I doubt however that Coptic Rain will ever be pop.
A promotional single was released to attract attention to this album. It featured a radio edit for Devil in Disguise and album versions of Rejoice and The Haunt. The version of Devil in Disguise is different from the one on the album. There is another version of this song on a Slovenian Elvis tribute album (see the sound page). Here's the cover of this promo single.
